Your Smile Never Had it So Good

About 1 out of 4 adults has untreated decay. Source.
When you come in for your initial visit with us for your dental cleaning and exam, you can expect us to roll out the red carpet for you. Your hygienist will take a complete set of digital X-rays along with intraoral photos we can keep in your file to refer back to. We’ll also complete a full dental history, giving us a solid picture of your oral health.

During your semi-annual exam, we’ll check for cavities, oral cancer, gum disease, TMJ problems, and signs of teeth grinding (also called bruxism). Depending on the results of your exam, we’ll lay out a treatment and prevention plan for you and help you decide on the right course of action for your smile. Based on your needs, we may be able to perform your teeth cleaning at that same appointment.

Besides checkups and cleanings, we also offer other types of general dentistry:

  • Non-Surgical Gum Disease Treatment – We may use traditional scaling and root planing, laser treatment, or antibiotics to help your gums heal.
  • Custom Mouthguards – Get a mouthguard to protect your smile during sports or to prevent teeth grinding while sleeping.
  • Dry Mouth Treatment and Halitosis (Bad Breath) Treatment – We’ll work to determine the root causes of these chronic issues, then develop a plan to help you manage them.

Common Questions About General and Preventative Dentistry

What are general and preventative dentistry?

Daily oral hygiene is essential to keeping your mouth clean and healthy. But as important as brushing and flossing are, they aren’t enough on their own to protect your teeth and gums. General dentistry covers a wide range of treatments designed to help you prevent and detect dental problems, so you can keep your oral health on track.

What foods are healthy for my teeth?

Food healthy for your teeth includes those high in calcium and phosphorus, such as dairy products, leafy greens, and almonds. High-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables can help clean teeth and stimulate saliva production. As a result, it helps neutralize acids in the mouth. Crunchy fruits and vegetables, like apples and carrots, can help scrape away plaque and massage gums. Finally, drinking plenty of water can help rinse away food particles and acids that can cause tooth decay.

Should I get fluoride treatment?

Fluoride, a mineral found in many foods and water, helps prevent cavities by making your tooth enamel stronger. It can even reverse early-stage decay. Since it contributes to the development of healthy teeth, children under 12 may benefit from fluoride treatment. In addition, cavity-prone adults may benefit as well. Ask us about fluoride if you have dry mouth, gum disease, or wear braces or other orthodontia.
